The Oakland Raiders may not become the Las Vegas Raiders for two more seasons, but the addition of Jon Gruden as their head coach is already prime marketing fodder.
Jon Gruden is already in Las Vegas – at least on a billboard.
The Oakland Raiders have swapped out their main billboard located on the now bustling construction site of their future $1.9 Billion stadium just off the famed Las Vegas Strip, and there is Gruden in all his Silver and Black glory.
The brand that is Gruden is one reason we explored why it made sense in the run up to bring “Chucky” back to the Raider organization. We even had an at-length discussion about what it meant to Las Vegas as our founder and editor Scott Gulbransen, and senior NFL writer Scott Winter discussed it on a recent podcast.
In the past, the billboard has had similar messages with pictures of the stadium, the Raiders shield, and a “Vegas Strong” message as well. This is the first marketing collateral we’ve seen here or in Oakland that adorns the face of the Raiders old – er – new coach. Although the Raiders are committed to Oakland the next two years, using Gruden already is sure to build excitement in Las Vegas just ahead of PSL sales opening in March.
